The port creates relief for the tongue while the barrel joint relieves pressure on the bars, while still allowing for individual lateral aids. The joint is hindered in making its full movement, thereby limiting the bit’s action and lessening the pinch.
The Kimberley Dee cheekpiece prevents pinching of the lips and gives a solid feel against the side of the face. It also prevents the bit being pulled through the mouth. The release is slower than a Loose Ring and introduces some poll pressure.
